Philadelphia’s Mighty Writers visit Rushton Farm and Preserve. Students toured woodland, meadow, stream, and farm fields making notes and sketches in their journals as they walked–from flower gardens to bluebird boxes to hedge rows. Along the way they learned about meadow and stream ecology, listened to the songs of ovenbirds and sparrows, witnessed the workings of the bees and then tasted their sweet honey. At the end of the afternoon, students composed poetry drawn from their field notes and wanderings.
